What Is the Difference Between Reflexology, Reiki & Crystal Healing?
Complementary and holistic therapies have become increasingly popular as people look for natural ways to relax, rebalance and support overall wellbeing. Among the many options available, Reflexology, Reiki and Crystal Healing are often mentioned together — but they are very different practices.
This article explains what each therapy involves, how they work, and the key differences between them, so you can decide which might be right for you.
Reflexology: Healing Through the Feet (and Hands)
Reflexology is a hands-on therapy based on the idea that specific points on the feet, hands and ears correspond to different organs and systems of the body.
How it works
A trained reflexologist applies gentle but precise pressure to these reflex points. The aim is to:
Encourage relaxation
Improve circulation
Support the body’s natural balance and healing processes
Reflexology is often used to help with stress, tension, sleep issues and general wellbeing.
What to expect
You remain fully clothed
Treatment usually focuses on the feet
Pressure can feel deeply relaxing or occasionally tender
Key feature: Physical touch and pressure-based technique.
Reiki: Energy Healing Through Gentle Touch
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that works with what is often described as universal life energy. It is based on the belief that energy flows through and around the body, and that imbalances in this energy can affect wellbeing.
How it works
A Reiki practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body, allowing energy to flow where it is needed. The client simply relaxes.
Reiki is commonly associated with:
Deep relaxation
Emotional balance
Stress reduction
What to expect
Very light touch or no touch at all
You may feel warmth, tingling, or deep calm
Sessions are quiet and meditative
Key feature: Non-invasive energy-based healing.
Crystal Healing: Working With the Energy of Crystals
Crystal healing uses crystals and gemstones, each believed to carry unique energetic properties. The practice is rooted in ancient traditions and focuses on balancing the body’s energy centres (often called chakras).
How it works
Crystals are placed on or around the body, or used in the practitioner’s hands, with the intention of restoring energetic balance.
Different crystals are associated with different purposes, such as:
Amethyst for calm and clarity
Rose quartz for emotional healing
Clear quartz for balance and focus
What to expect
No physical manipulation
A calm, restful environment
A highly personalised experience
Key feature: Use of crystals as energetic tools.

Many people find that these therapies complement each other beautifully, and I combine them for a more holistic session.
What makes my practice a bit different is how I combine treatments. You're not limited to one therapy. We can weave Reflexology with Reiki, surround you with crystals in a healing grid, or keep things simple with a single treatment. It's your session. Your needs guide what happens on the couch.
